The Hills Are Alive With The Sound of Really, Really Bad Ideas. . .
I should first admit that I don’t watch The Hills. I have a basic knowledge of the evolution of the show: it was born out of Laguna Beach, produced the spinoff The City, and it is chock-full of drama and lots and lots of good old-fashioned manipulation. The other day my friend sent me this clip with the warning: “It may make your head explode.”
In the clip, Heidi is talking about how she wants to have a baby and her husband does not. She tells her friend Audrina, “My plan is to maybe stop taking my birth control.” Audrina, rightfully, is speechless. Heidi continues, “Spencer doesn't know how much he wants a family. I think we need a family – and I'll make the call!”
Far be it from me to judge someone else’s marriage, but has Heidi lost her mind? This is the same man who last week wanted a vasectomy until he was told that it wasn’t reversible. I don’t think he could be more clear about his desire not to have a baby right now. Plus, research shows that when at least one member of a couple says a pregnancy was unplanned, the couple is more likely to have relationship turmoil. I don’t think Heidi knows about the research.
So let’s recap. Heidi wants to have a baby. Spencer does not. Heidi’s current plan is to trick him into it by going off birth control! I might actually start watching The Hills because I have to see what happens next.
What do you think about Heidi trying to manipulate Spencer into having a baby?
What Others Have Said...
I think it's fairly clear that Heidi is a complete f**kin lunatic, and that she is the absolute worst possible candidate for motherhood.
Beyond that, how many times have we heard "let's have a baby to save our marriage/relationship/about-to-die-on-the-rocks-of-incompatibility-dramafest"? Are TV producers really this bereft of new material AND common f**kin sense?
*facepalm*
