Anxious Girl Takes A Trip Down Memory Lane. . .

The other day I got a call from Anxious Girl.

Anxious Girl: “Oh, do I have a story for you…”

Me: “About who?”

Anxious Girl: “Remember College Boy?”

Me: “You mean the guy you liked all the way through college, made out with senior year, and have had a simmering crush on ever since? That guy?”

Anxious Girl: “Did you write that down?”

Me: “Nah, I just remember stuff.”

Anxious Girl: “Well he came and visited last weekend.”

Me: “And. . . .?”

Anxious Girl took a deep breath.

Anxious Girl: “We made out and it was really bad. Like he-bruised-my-lip bad.”

Me: “ Go on…”

Adventures of a Perpetual Player: A Backwards Trilogy (Part 3)

Long ago, in a galaxy--I mean state--far, far away, there was a group of friends who met in college. And in that group of friends, there was a Perpetual Player (also affectionately known as Man Whore). The story of Perpetual Player takes place over four years and involves five different women, some of them at the same time. This story will be told in reverse--we will start in 2005 and travel back in time to the year 2001. We may need a flow chart.

Adventures of a Perpetual Player: I should have loved you better.

Baltimore, Just What the Doctor Ordered

Last Sunday I was at brunch with Anxious Girl and Miss Optimism. I had barely lifted my fork from my plate of eggs when Anxious Girl blurted out “Miss Optimism has a great story for your blog!” Confession: I love learning what other people consider “crazy blog worthy” stories. It’s a small glimpse at their funny barometer.

Me: “I’m all ears.”

Miss Optimism: “Okay, it’s about my recent trip to the lady doctor.”

Me: “This is gonna’ be good.”

...With a Little Help From My Friends

The phrase “wait, wait, don’t tell this story” is becoming common in my life. Someone will start a story and then interrupt themselves to say “you can’t blog about this,” and I usually roll my eyes and say “fine.” Sometimes they are great stories and I cry a little on the inside that I can’t use them. So after three months of writing this blog, I want to officially say thank you to all my friends who let me blog about their lives, tell me stories about their friends, and who have not yet voted me off the friend island. The award for the greatest group of friends ever goes to:

Have You Met…Anxious Girl?

The other night I was having dinner with Anxious Girl and reminiscing about our first winter in DC. We were so miserable in the cold that we made up a game called “At Least We Don’t Live In Iowa,” to make ourselves feel better. I apologize to the residents of Iowa but desperate times call for desperate measures.

Bad Decisions are Like Forest Fires

Let’s Reevaluate our Decision-making Paradigm.

What are bad decisions?

The other day on the way to work Miss Manners and I were discussing what we should do over this weekend.

Miss Manners: “We could go out dancing?”

Me: “That would work. Especially since Sunshine Girl called me last night and said she ‘wanted to go make some bad decisions.’ I think dancing could facilitate bad-decision-making.”

Miss Manners: “I find that when you go out with the intent of making bad decisions, it never really happens. We always end up talking to gay guys/dudes with girlfriends/married guys who are trying to be good wingmen to the one single guy in the group.”

The Dog Ate My NuvaRing

Just so you don’t think you’ll be reading me in this spot all the time, God forbid, I’d like to introduce a friend who will be guest-blogging from time to time. Her name is Stefanie and we’re calling her blog “The Crazy Stories People Tell Stefanie.”

Stefanie’s in her mid-20s, from the Bay area of California, and lives on Capitol Hill. She’s smart, quick with a quip and one of those people who puts a stranger immediately at ease. People tell her stuff. She’d make a great reporter.
